LIBRARY LINK ANNOUNCEMENTS (No.27) updated 12/02/01
JOURNALS
The Library in the Twenty-First Century: New Services for the Information Age. The author writes of libraries being under threat, and draws on his extensive experience of practice and research in academic libraries. He indicates that "for everyone involved in libraries these are confusing times. If this book helps to elucidate some of the foundations on which future libraries can be built it will have more than served its purpose". It is divided into two parts. What is a library considers the question from the viewpoints of the different sectors in the profession; cross-sectoral models; the professions view; digital and hybrid libraries; and what is a good library. The second part considers future libraries: the core functions; enabling technologies; the information universe; the user universe; and into the future. There is an extensive bibliography.
